Georgios „George“ Lavantsiotis is a Berlin based freelance photographer.
George’s interest in photography began at the early age of 9, when he asked his father for a camera. He was running around the beaches of Skiathos (the island where he grew up), taking snapshots of his friends with his little cassette-film Platon pocket camera. Soon enough he would be entrusted with the “family’s camera”, a Minolta rangefinder, at every family gathering and social event.
During his last two years of school he was given an analogue SLR by his uncle, at which point he decided that his passion for photography was serious. He joined a local photo-club where he would start learning the basics of photography and film developing.
After moving to Germany in 2001, he studied photography at ILS Hamburg (Fernstudium) and attended various classes and workshops concerning both analogue and digital photography.
Soon after, he moved back to Greece where he was offered a job at a local magazine (Kapa-Style) where he started doing fashion and portraits. Over a period of 9 years he was doing freelance work for various Greek magazines (Imagine, Maxim, Mirror a.o.) as well as advertising work.
For the last 5 years he has been living in Berlin where he focussed more on his portrait and nudes work, as well as developing personal projects into exhibitions. He is currently employed as photographer and Creative director in a German company. As a freelancer he works on actor/model portfolios, commercial photography and fashion.
